February 26, 2022 ”Overcomer, pt. 5” - Pastor Tara VinCross

Sabbath, February 26 Pastor Tara VinCross shares part 5 in our sermon series called, “Overcomer.” How are we to make it through hard times? Revelation 12:11 declares, "they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony” - our experience of salvation and sharing our story. By looking to Jesus and sharing our story we are strengthened to make it through whatever we are facing. We are journeying deeper together through a letter written by the disciple Peter to a group of exiled believers. 

This week we turn to 1 Peter 3:1-12. Peter responds to believers living in unjust social systems of his day with specific instructions. The aim is to live a holy life before unbelievers with the hope that your conduct will have a positive impact on them. So how does that happen? What does it look like to live and witness within an unjust system? We will study these instructions to wives, husbands, and all believers, highlighting the key phrase, “in the same way.”

This week we turn to 1 Peter 2:11-25. In this and next week's message, Peter responds to three unfair social systems of the day: autocratic government, slavery, and male dominance in marriage. What does it look like to live and witness within an unjust system? The question still speaks to us today.

To these believers who are strangers in the land, scattered and suffering, far from the place of their spiritual home, Peter says: "you are being built into a house of living praise to God!” Friends, come and discover that no matter where we are or what our story, we are the priesthood of all believers; one living sanctuary, built to glorify God. The section of the letter we are looking at this week is 1 Peter 1:13-25. “Therefore,” Peter declares. Because of your experience of salvation and the “living hope” you have in Jesus, your life is lived differently. Come and discover how this can look in our lives today.

This Sabbath is a special one. In January, 1965 Azure Hills Church worshipped together on its campus for the first time. Today we celebrate 57 years as a church family! God has been so faithful to us! Pastor Tara VinCross shares a message entitled, "Come and See," from John 1:43-51. Just as Philip ran to Nathaniel with the great news about Jesus, others have passed along the news of Jesus to us. And we take the news to others by telling our story.
