Being Human: living imago dei: Fear | Pastor Tara VinCross
Thursday Jun 08, 2023
Thursday Jun 08, 2023
The American Psychiatric Association reports that, "Anxiety disorders are the most common mental disorders and affect nearly 30% of adults at some point in their lives.” Fear is something that all of us experience, triggered by input from our senses (seeing, hearing, tasting, touching, and smelling). Anxiety is our reaction to fear.
Many of us know this reaction. You’re awake long into the night, wishing you could sleep…You may sweat or tremble…Your heartbeat races as you think about a situation you’re facing...
We’ve been looking at emotions through the lens of the experience of Jesus. Compassion, Joy, Anger, and Sadness. But, did Jesus feel fear? Did Jesus experience anxiety?
Pastor Tara VinCross will preach the final sermon in the series Being Human: living imago dei on the theme of Fear. You’re invited to engage with God, this scripture, and one another as we worship our Jesus.

Being Human: living imago dei | Sadness | Pastor Tara VinCross

"Jesus Wept." The shortest verse in the English Bible.
We come back to these words. We remember them and repeat them to one another, especially in seasons of heartache. There are three times in the Scriptures where Jesus shows deep sadness and tears. These snapshots into the life of Jesus allow us to see that though he was God, Jesus was also human. And if he allowed himself to grieve, maybe we can too.
How appropriate that we talk about sadness on this Memorial Day weekend, as we remember all those who have died in service to our country.
Pastor Tara VinCross will preach the fourth sermon in the series Being Human: living imago dei on the theme of Sadness. You’re invited to engage with God, this scripture, and one another as we worship our Jesus.

Did you grow up believing that to feel anger is wrong? Of all the emotions, anger has the worst reputation. Yet, in Matthew 21:12-16 we find a story in the scriptures where Jesus himself is angry. What do we do with this? What does this tell us about what we do with our own anger?
Pastor Tara VinCross will preach the third sermon in the series Being Human: living imago dei on the theme of Anger. You’re invited to engage with God, this scripture, and one another as we worship our Jesus.

Tuesday May 16, 2023
What’s your mental picture of Jesus? A huge smile? Eyes sparkling with joy? A skip to his step? Perhaps it’s not what you usually picture. Many have a more stern mental image than this, however the scriptures testify that though the mission of Jesus was a serious one, our Jesus experienced joy. As we live as image bearers of God, following after our Jesus, we are called to experience lasting joy.
Pastor Tara VinCross will preach the second sermon in the series Being Human: living imago dei on the theme of Joy. You’re invited to engage with God, this scripture, and one another as we worship our Jesus.
